I have recently purchased a 3" 4Crawler BL. 4Crawler takes almost all of the guess work out of the project with his in depth instructions.

The only thing I am concerned about is my rear Smittybilt bumper being raised to the new height. I've gone through the search function and seen different ways of lifting the bumper, almost all of them require welding which I do not have access to.

I have an idea which I have drawn up to show my idea for a lift bracket for my rear bumper. I am not familiar with metals so any help on the materials I should use would be great! PLEASE give the design all the criticism it deserves. I would rather have my design ragged on then going down the road and the darn thing fall off. Thank you all very much in advance!

 

Probably dont want to bolt it to the bed, even if its two bolts.

 

I don't know what I'm talking about, but I will add that you should add gussets to your design, and if you're planning on keeping the body lift, it would probably be best to weld the bracket to the bumper itself.

EDIT: by the way that's a pretty good drawing. I'm a technical writer so I appreciate well-thought out diagrams like that!

 

I think it would be better to fab up the parts and then just take them to a welding shop to have it welded on. Otherwise your bumper will be for cosmetics only.

 

Thanks guys. The bolt to the bed is something I noticed in the stock design. I will try to find a welding shop. The input is much appreciated!

 

Since the stock bracket drops down about 3", just cut the mounting tabs off the bumper, and weld ones that are straight...
That way you get rid of the gap
