New 2nd Gen 4Runner
So I think i got a hell of a deal on this 4runner. Ive wanted one ever since i have had my license and finally 4 years later am just getting around to getting one! I was looking on the local craigslist for a couple weeks befor i saw this truck for sale. Guy wanted $2000 for this truck because it wouldnt start. He said he thought it was a relay some where.
Well i gave him a call and we talked and i got him all the way down to $1100. So that night i went to pick it up with a truck and trailor. Got there and offered him $900 cash which he thought about for a second and said Sure why not.
So i got home and took it to a local shop to get fixed. Turned out all it needed was a Fresh Battery, and a NEW FUEL FILTER. Only thing wrong was the fuel filter was clogged.
The truck has a couple other little things wrong with it such as it needs a new front drive shaft, A/C doesnt work, and new radiator. But i got lucky and a buddy of mine has his own junk yard where i got the radiator and drive shaft for free.
So all in all i have $1050 into this truck. I will probably end up having im guessing around $2000 into it. Thats after fixing A/C and getting new shocks and changing all bushing.
Only downside to this truck is its an automatic. Thinking about doing a 5speed swap within the next couple months.
So what do you guys think about this deal? Oh and the Tires have about 80% tread left.

I was told 6in susp with a 3 inch body. Its on 35x12.50's Im not sure of anything on the truck other than that.
The guy i bought it from didnt really talk to much. Well he was a bit of a nerd and came outside for 5 minutes while we used his truck to pull it up on the trailor. Then gave him the cash and got the title and he went back inside ha.
The truck has 233000 miles on it and the interior is almost perfect. The owner of this truck took great care of it. It only has a rip in the driver seat from getting in and out. Other than that perfect. But the odometer and speedo stopped working a while ago and the engine still runs strong. I also got lucky when the guy hadjust replaced the head gasket and a whole bunch of other stuff right befor the truck stopped running. Had reciepts to prove all work . I think he was in debt and needed money real quick.

a good deal is one thing -- fair to both parties, but it sounds like you kinda screwed that guy. these are tough times. if indeed he was desperate for the money, I wouldn't be gloating over that. there's no real skill involved in taking advantage of someone.
can't believe you settled on a price and then talked him down even more. that's kinda dirty.
nice truck. just watch out for Karma...

Nope, not dirty at all. I was willing to give him 1200 and i offered him 900 which i was expecting him to take. and he said yes. Not my fault he said yes. I never tried to convince him he needed to lower the price. just like when i offered him the 1200 he said okay. Im just assuming he needed the money quickly for selling it so cheap. Its not my fault he was in debt(like i said im assuming he was in debt). If he wanted to say no he could have at any time. Its as simple as that.
