I hate driving with the back window down on my 87 4Runner because of the bad gas smell that blows in. I pulled codes 11 and 12 which lead me to the fact that the knock sensor has been completely disconnected. So disconnected in fact that the entire wiring harness is missing.

The FSM says that the knock sensor wire is black, and sure enough I've found it leaving the ECU. The problem is that when I look at the main wiring harness in the engine compartment, there are actually two solid black wires coming out of it. One has a constant 12V current and the other I'm afraid to mess with since it seems to run up to a sensor on the intake manifold.

I called the dealer for part 82219-89103 which should be the correct pigtail, but they said it only fits 88 and up. The couldn't find the part for 87 down. She is an 87 but I'm told that the engine is from an 86.

In any event, I'm not sure where I'd plug the factory wiring harness into because I don't seen any insulated wires with an disconnected end that could accept it.

So here are my questions:

Can someone post a pic of both ends of their 86 or 87 knock sensor wiring harness? All the ones I've found on the web haven't had enough detail to figure out how to wire it back.

What's the best way to locate the wire in the wiring harness? Like I said, there are 2 blacks and no insulated wires I can see.

Does anyone know the correct part number for the pigtail or a good supplier (besides the p-n-p)?
