need ideas fixing hood
About 5yr ago I got small accident and sustained some front end damage which I was able to fix with a come-along winch and a BFH....not perfect, but drivable and safe. The hood was not perfectly aligned, but I was able to get it latch.
Over the weekend, I needed to get a jump and was in a hurry to get my daughter to her soccer game. As I was getting on the freeway onramp the hood popped open. Scared the ˟˟˟˟ out of us...I was able to pull over..luckily there were no cars around me. I wasn't able to relatch the hood because now it was about 1/2in too far back....I was able to strap it down and be on my way, but now I need a permanent fix.
The hinges and mounts were damaged. When the hood popped up, the hinges cut thru the firewall. It seems like the hinges or mounts were pushed by 1/2in. They hinges no longer move freely and catch on the firewall.
Here is what I was thinking.
- I bought hood pins, but would need to weld a mounting plate for the rear pins
- Use a BFH until the hinges moved freely....then weld the hinges to the hood.
What do you think?.....any better ideas?
Also, What precautions do I need to take when welding on frame?
Can't figure out how to post a pic...wont' take upload

Had the same thing happen once. I pulled a set of hinges and a hood off a junker, straightened out the fire wall( wasn't to badly damaged), and bolted everything back in. Did have to use some washers in certain points to get it all aligned.
If you can I would bolt the hood to hinges that way you don't have to unbolt from the firewall if you have to take it apart again
If you go to weld on the truck, I always disconnect the battery. Don't know if I have to , just a precaution.
