Need Help with trans
Ok so I picked up a new truck today. It is a 91 toyota pickup 4x4. There is an issue with the trans thought that im not sure what it is. I have it narrowed down to the syncros being bad. Basically you have to hold it in 1st and 2nd gear or it will pop out and it will not go into 3rd. However, it runs and drives fine other than that. What do you guys think?? Thanks

well, its not completely related, but not too long ago my dads 5 speed in his 99 runner started popping outta gear, he took it to the stealer and luckly the mechanic was good and said gimee 30 mins.
bout 45 mins later got it back and all was fine, turns out it was the "shifter bushings"
Im not too knowledgeable about trannys but i get where your going with the idea that it could be the syncros.
I would start simple though with the bushings

Listen to Scuba. It's a common problem. Get the $20 shifter bushings from marlin crawler and it'll probably fix you up. I had the same thing and that was the fix. It seems insane when you can't stay in gear but the problem is that you can't get all the way in gear so you're just 1/2 way there and it falls out. You can search for the shifter bushing thing and see there are a bunch of people who fixed the same thing and come back saying how they can't believe how easy it was to fix.

Do you think that is the problem with not going into 3rd gear. It is really weird because the truck runs great and will go into 1,2,4,5,R easily but not 3rd. Is this what you are talking about from marlin crawler? It is at the bottom of the page. They are calling it a heavy duty shifter seat.
