Need help, charging problem

Im having the parking brake light and the batt light on the dash light up at the same time. If i keep driving withe the lights on, drains the batt and wont start unless i let it sit parked. Sometimes if park for a short time( 10 min) will start with no dash lights on and lights will stay off for weeks sometimes with no problens. This has been an ongoing problem and I replaced the batt about 2 months ago. The alternator puts out a constant 14.38 volts with no variation during rpm change. Is my voltage reg going bad, short somewhere? Any one have this prob before? Oh yeah, it is a 88' pick up with 22re, thanks for any advice

I had a similar problem with mine. Ended up being a broken wire inside the wire loom. It was the wire that tells the altenator to start charging after the vehicle has been started. Not saying thats your problem, but would definatly look for loose wire connections. My wire actually came apart do to the fact I had bad engine mounts and the engine was moving so much it was pulling things apart. Good luck on finding the problem, charging issue's drive me crazy.

Sounds like brushs in alternator are worn and make contact sometimes , when it isnt charging the park light and charge light come on . its a Toyota thing with two lights coming on. So I think I would repl. the alt. our 92 was doing the same thing replaced the alt. and no more problems.

Take the alt apart and check the brushes..way cheaper. Also check the negative battery cable.... make sure all connections are clean. Often times it is a simple ground fix.
