Sounds like the classic symptoms of a bad signal generator. The signal generator is located in the distributor. When it goes bad, it'll show proper ohms when cold. However, as the engine warms up, the ohms go through the roof and the engine quits.

The signal generator can be ohmed out by unplugging it (it's the wire with a green plug coming out of the distributor and the other end of the plug goes to the igniter) and ohming it out. It should register between 140-180 ohms. Ohm it out with a cold AND hot motor.
