Hi, I have a 95 toyota truck, 5 speed 4x4 with v-6 engine. My problem is that
my transmission is stuck in reverse. But heres the catch, the stick feels as though it is neutral.

Im getting ready to pull the tranny off, any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated.

will it not go into in any other gear? you might want to pull the shifter boot and remove the shifter handle to inspect the cup that the shifter sits in. you should then move the shifter cup by hand or with a screwdriver to see if it changes gear. if you dont see any problem there then its probably in the tranny case itself and would have to be dropped and disassembled to check that. i dont know how mechanicaly inclined you are but dropping the tranny can be a dificult job.

p.s.- to remove the shifter handle, push down on the ring between the stick and the hole in the tranny and turn either clockwise or counter clockwise (i dont remember which right off hand) and it will pop out.

 

I have already removed the shifter cover and stick and tried to move things from there with no luck. I am at the point where the next step is to drop the tranny. I do not know a great deal about the inner workings of the transmisson, I am hoping there is just a broken linkage(if such a thing exists?)
