That's absolutely crazy! I can't imagine owning a vehicle and only putting a little over 8000 miles on it. I drive that much in just under a years time. It's not really fair to compare wwhen you have been driving your truck on a daily basis. I think the body of your truck looks good for her age.

Just bits and pieces from what I heard. Obsessive owner, washed and waxed it all the time. Would replace the slightest thing that bugged him. Lived just a couple of miles from work and used it to drive to work and back - had a work vehicle when he got to the office. It was certainly garaged. Normal maintenance.
Personally, it sounds like a bit of OCD. Not sure he enjoyed it, except for the pleasure he got from taking care of it and creating a brand new 20 year old truck that he sold in order to buy a new Tacoma he doesn't like as much. He's a single guy in his 50s. Too bad there's no Toyota truck category at the Pebble Beach Concours D'Elegance - he would have been very competitive!
Surprisingly despite all this, he didn't use Mobil 1 or any other synthetic oil. Just did regular maintenance, but would replace strange things - original battery swapped out for an Interstate right after he bought it because he liked Interstate batteries. Personally, I would have been concerned about seals drying up from such little use.
I doubt it was ever driven on dirt, despite being a 4x4, so I guess some would also consider that to make him a poser

Update and the truck is for sale now
My friend upped and moved to Colorado. He decided the truck is too nice to ruin in the snow, dirt, outdoors and everything, so he's put it up for sale. I have no involvement in what he does, other than he called today to see how I was doing and told me where the ad to his truck is. He's asking $13K and the truck is in the Boulder, CO area. Here's the link to his ad on Craigslist - http://boulder.craigslist.org/car/455380874.html
Enjoy!
