name this shifter part for 1989 4runner..please?!

all right guys bare with me, I'm new to Toyota and I'm a 40 yrs old chick so yeah...'nuff said! LOL

I've looked quite a bit online for the past few days and I can't find THIS:

I've tried "shifter boot" and yes I need them but also the bezel I believe it's called? the piece around it? but all I find is for automatics ones...

so what am I doing wrong? what it is called and where can I get one?!

I did find the heater/ac panel brand new on Ebay yesterday so YAY!!

and another question.about parts...

the dome light cover/light bulb, I need both but is there other years that would fit or do I need to look up only 1989 4runner?

and...(I'm a woman, so I always have more questions...LOL)

the 4runner logo on the sides...what's the deal, can they be replaced easily? where to get them? I did not have much success finding them either

I do believe that's called a bezel and or surround. you can likely get creative with some super-glue to get that back together.

the "4runner" name-plates....I think they all end up looking like that eventually...never seen a good looking one.....probably just a poor design.

welcome to YOTATECH

i believe most people make their own shifter boots, or have some lady make them one (like a seamstress maybe?) or an auto upholstery place.

the "bezel" around it can be had at a junkyard from a '84-'89 4runner or '84-'88 pickup.

i'm not sure on the dome light cover lens, but one from a similar year 4runner would fit for sure....not so sure on the newer generation 4runners though.

The dome light bulb however can be had at any local parts store...just ask one of the high school dropouts behind the counter (no offense if anyone is a parts man/woman )

and the 4runner emblem, i believe you could possibly get those from the dealership....or look on craigslist or ebay for someone parting out a 4runner for cheap

for the shift bezel u might want to try a wrecking yards, look for ones that specialize in toyota parts or might even find someone here that is selling them. the dome light i believe the 86 to 89 will fit that, also wrecking yard item. stealership will want way too much. im not sure about the 4runner sticker i have never messed with one.

1988.08-1992.08 not the 84-88. not according to TPZ anyway.

what XXX?

i've seen hundreds of '89 4runners that look JUST LIKE the '84-'88 ones.

1990 was the first year of body change for the 4runner.

I was planning a trip to my local salvage yard already, see what we could dig out since the hubby also just got an '88 PU version for himself (#7 yota) and his is in way worse shape than mine...LOL

about the shifter boot, I do sew quite a bit so I might come up with something or be lazy and buy one !

maybe there are subtle differences? i mean it's surely possible..i've never looked at the two different years side by side to compare..but i have been in both a '86 4runner and an '89....and they looked the same LOL

inputting 88 comes up with this:

58810 CONSOLE ASSY (NOT AVAILABLE) 58802-89102-E0 1986.08-1988.08

Notice that only goes back to 87 model year.

Bottom line if he wants a part number, he needs to put up his build date.

I think Death Cougar was running that for a while but the lady I dealt with is named Jen. Something like "girlslikemud (at) hotmail (dot) com" I think. Great prices, all OEM equipment and she includes all the bolts/tabs/retainers in the package.

edit: Unless I'm mistaken that 4runner looks like it's blue, perhaps Royal Blue? Can we get a picture of the entire rig? I ask because I love the RB runners and sort of collect pictures of them.

edit #2: What the heck is that on the tranny shifter?

i had a broken shifter trim piece just like that. someone dropped a knee on it. there are two different sizes, and two different size shift boots. i found this out when i ordered a shift boot from ebay and the rectangle wire frame inside was not the same size.

so if you get a replacement, try to get the boot that goes with it too. i see them on ebay occasionally. it's just luck if you check there occasionally. search "4runner shift trim" or "4runner console" and you may see them. right now i only see for autos. if you want to get adventurous, you can swap in an entire center console from a 90-95 4runner, they are easier to find and the plastic won't be as brittle.

there are basically two different interior lights for that era. they both fit in the same screw holes, but one is a little larger rectangle, and one is slightly more rounded. i found this out when i tried to use a 90s Camry interior light in my truck. it mounted up fine, but the size was a little different. with a molded headliner like the camry had, my broken one wouldn't have looked quite right. the headliner in the 4runner should be soft and not a problem.

i've taken off those side trim panels, and i cannot see a reasonable way to separate the 4Runner logo from them. possibly some time in an oven, at about 200* may soften the glue holding them in, but that's a real risk with such old plastic. unless you replace the entire panel with new, you may want to find a decal to put over it. it seems they're impossible to restore. i've never seen a successful discussion thread either. anyone else seen one?

as suggested, you may find these parts if you look thru this site's classifieds and look for the guys with the "4Runner retirement communities". but the parts you seek are some of the hardest to find. i gave up on replacing that center console shifter trim. i'm going to put new carpet in and just have the rubber accordion boots poking through alone.

good luck!

I got the lether boot from fleabay for 35 bucks. I went to a you pull it and got the leather boot, the ruber boot underneath it, and a tool kit and jack from an FJ60. I paid two bucks to get in and two bucks for the stuff. IMO the pick and pull is the way to go. You dont always find what you want right away but it usualy turns up eventualy.

You need to get the Mr. on here! Always cool to have another Yotatech couple (we have a few already).

This is just me, but IMO the worn 4Runner emblem looks "experienced". Like, showing how much the truck has endured and is still going . My rig has 'em too. If you can't get a replacement, I don't think it looks bad.

you guys are awesome! thank you for all the replies

found out one of our friends (only drive Toyotas as well) has 2 boxes full of 4runner and PU parts so I MAY find what I need in there...he had the heater/AC panel I bought for $40 on eBay...GGRRRR..but mine is new so that's not a bad deal.

1- ok on the side panel emblems, I will leave them alone, it really doesnt bother me that much.

2- What the heck is that on the tranny shifter? the HORN!! it's been redneck rigged on there...LOL...it's not cosmetically appealing but it is T-H-E best spot for the horn IMO... think we will leave it there, but make it look better.

3- Unless I'm mistaken that 4runner looks like it's blue, perhaps Royal Blue? Can we get a picture of the entire rig not sure what you mean? you want me to take better pics of inside? and outside?

about getting the Mr. on here, I would love to but the man is really really too busy with his custom Gun business so I will be probably just me on here, at least for now
It was the same way when we had our Kawi Ninjas, I was the one involved on the forums and I sure learned a LOT!!!
(even told him things he did not know!! lol)

which one of those would be the correct one:

auction #1

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...T#ht_500wt_975

auction #2
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...T#ht_500wt_975

or should I go with this and glue the bezel back together?
