Mystery rubber nipple on throttle linkage?

I had an issue a year or so ago where my throttle sort of stuck open slightly. Fortunately I was less than a mile from my house at the time, so I was able to make it back into my driveway. After looking around under the hood, I found a rubber nipple hung up on the throttle arm. I pulled it out, and I haven't had the throttle stick open at all in the year or so since this happened, so that must have been what it was, getting hung up with the cable I guess.
I'd still like to know what that stupid thing was though.
Does anybody recognize what this little rubber nipple goes to?

That came from the throttle cable where it goes into the covered part.

It was supposed to keep the lubricant inside and the dirt out

Like other rubber parts it got dry and brittle

Yea that is just a cap used to seal the cable so that dust does not get into the cable I would recommend replacing the cable as soon as possible or in the mean time i would be sure to keep the cable well lubercated. You can buy a special lub that has a small straw like spout that is used to insert into the cable to keep it lubed or you can just use like WD-40. However If I was you I would just go ahead and replace it. If you don't the cable could get clogged and cause the throttle to stick.

Ah, thanks. I see where it goes now.

I'll pay attention to the cable for stickiness. Maybe I'll add a new cable to the my to-do list. It feels fine now though.

I've shied away from using wd40 as a lubricant. Wouldn't silicone spray or lithium spray be better in the cable sleeve?

I have been using Kroil for years now.

Most often it is a case of what ever is closest at hand
