My recovery #2 (slid off road!)
#42
Trevor,
You can correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like the rear end slid out and to the left which basically left you going sideways. If that's the case, those swampers really are helping you out in the snow, no? (no)
Driving 'too fast for conditions', one would think the front would loose traction first, leaving you skidding straight, not sideways... or did you over-correct and end up sideways?
... oh wait- you hit the brakes....
One of the first things they teach you in drivers ed is to NOT hit the brakes hard- to gently apply pumping action- and steer in the direction of the skid.
Damn boy! You are not on dirt and sand anymore! Don't drive like it.
But it is nice to hear you're okay.
... and even more importantly: the truck is okay!
You spent how long chasing non-existant demons in your trucks engine only to pitch your truck off the side of the road and wreck it?
Please, please, please... put things into perspective.
And maybe, just maybe... yotatech's collective consciousness is looking out for you.

It is very hard to clearly remember everything that happened. I was kicking out the back of my truck (2nd gear + lots of throttle and steer hard) and would kinda drift a little (stupid cuz a little mistake could send me off) but as I remember I tried to do this around this turn and instead of the wheels turning, they went straight losing all contol. I hit the brakes to hopefully stop, but only ended up sliding off anyway. I wouldn't change a thing that happened though. As if I would have went straight down, I would have not only hit "a" tree, even with the tires locked it would have slid downhill and progressively got faster unless I could manage to get it into reverse and floor it.
I am hopefully going to get 2 more swampers for the front soon. Speed and stupid were the major factors.

Yes, 4 tires, not just 2. You may only have two drive wheels, but you have four braking wheels. When you brake, most of the weight is shifted forward. If your front tires are crap, you aren stopping.
In my opinion, ditch the swampers, and get a set of good studless winter tires. They'll save your ass more than you can imagine.

I think we all need to remember that all of us at some point has done something less than smart(I know I have). We can only hope to learn from it and not make the same mistake again. Live and learn.
