Thanks Carl...stole the words right from my mouth. Just walk. If your like me, you could probably use the excersise.
Plus, say you do buy a new truck. Then you sell this problem off to some unsuspecting person whose hoping for a nice truck. It's just bad karma...

I'm curious if it will make it too...
You also live in WA (The land of immaculate Toyotas) and have a rusted rig (missed that the first time through); let it die; and don't pay $1400 for a rig with rust!

Sorry to steal the thread but where can I buy the metal backed guides for the TC, and what do I need to look for to determine if I need to replace the guides/ T cover?
Im going this job soon because of an oil leak, and want to do it right.
and DOOSH, Let me know when you kill your yota... because I see some thing I would like to add to my 4runner, She aint a looker but the BEST vehicle ive ever owned and ive put her through some ˟˟˟˟˟!

Re:Metal Guide Rails
On FleaBy a cheap set will run ~$30. (With Sprockets, tensioners, and chain)
There are lots of choices.
e.g. TOYOTA 85-95 2.4L Heavy Duty Timing Chain Kit 22R 22RE 22REC Metal Guide Rail

Pay one of your co-workers to give you a ride for 2 weeks. Offer to put gas in their car and buy their breakfast...don't blow up a truck just because you don't think you're out of options.

This was the first problem that i had with my 22re, the oil was over full and had a milky color, the timing chain wore through the cover at 160k miles (i bought it with 145k.) My dad helped me fix it, and we only replaced the timing chain, guides, and cover, we had to pull the radiator and maybe the oil pan. After ordering the cover, we fixed it in a weekend. Get a ride or at least put fresh oil in it if you do drive it.
