My mystery oil leak (pic inside)
Well I degreased everything so I could see where the oil was coming from but no such luck. I was able to get the oil to spray everywhere. Ive been told the oil pump. But I dont know where to look theres no visisble leak on the pump/ pulley. Seems lots of clean oil on the a/c compresser pulley area. Others say P/S but again cant be sure. Hoping one of you have seen this before. Point me in the right direction. Brad

so what are you low on? check your fluids. that'll be the first place i would look. see whats low. lol a leak that bad you should be able to see it come out. you'll just have to get under it and actually look everything over.

It all started about a week after I changed the oil. My ps was low when the leak occurred but I think it was low to start with. I topped it off last week, it looks to be the same level today. Again with the oil I just changed it so the level it self has not moved yet. I think a little oil goes a long way so it may take a few days to see what level drops.

my 4 runner did something like that and it was the main seal had a rip in it and when running it would spray out like that and when i stop it running it would leave a puddle of oil on the ground too,

strikes me odd that the spray by the left front wheel has about a 6" break in it, but to the right front wheel, it extends continuously.
and the oil field has more on the ground towards the left wheel than right wheel.
You said your PS was low, you mean power steering, right? What did you use to top that up? ATF / Dexron III fluid, not brake fluid, right?

I put a bottle that says "Power Steering Fluid". In the p/s reservoir.
Hoping some one has seen this before. Any to tell for sure its the oil pump?

I think you and I have the same problem.

After doing some research I'm convinced it's the oil pump seal that is causing my leak.

I'm going to change it myself. I installed the timing chain kit with oil and water pump from engine builder about 1-2K miles ago. It's really simply. Take the crank pulley nut off using the starter method and your pretty much good to go from there. I'm going to use the OEM seal from the dealer. I heard two things cause the seal to leak. 1 being that the seal has worn a groove into the crank and 2 the seal fails from revving the motor to high.

Often you can smell the fluid that is leaking and compare that to what is 1) on the dip stick, 2) in the PS reservior or 3) in the radiator. The fluids typically are different colors as well, and coolant definitely feels different to the touch than oil or ATF.
However, it also sounds like you put the wrong PS fluid in there... I'd suction out that old PS fluid and put in Dextron III or Dextron/Mercron ATF. You might have to repeat that process a time or two to make sure you get the plain PS fluid out of your system.
