My head gaskets are going again!

But anyway, good luck with your HGs, hopefully the dealer does the right thing.

Well....
I just had to call the dealership, tomorrow makes an entire 7 day week since I dropped it off. They claim that the mechanic did a compression check etc and that he is confident that coolant is not making its way into the oil... How did my cap get so milky and where is it all going?? So they are going to put some die in it tomorrow and take it out for a drive, which bugs me I do not like letting people drive my vehicles at all especially when Im not with them... So we shall see, I didn't tell them but as soon as I get it back, especially if they tell me its OK and not a HG Im getting a 2nd opinion, I want the compression test #s and want to have another mechanic that has not worked on it to diagnose the problem and if it turns out it is a HG then Im going to blow one and take this above the dealership and the service managers head..... Its sad that its taken a week to get this far and either way Im going to have to flush the cooling system again to get the die out of there!! What a pain.... It sucks that Ive had the truck for so long, its more of a sentimental thing, Ive been driving it for over 15 years with no problems, though now more than ever Im kicking myself for not stripping it down and trading it in with the cash for clunkers program...

Yeah, this is a headache! I was looking at used trucks last night, I found a few really nice 1st gen Nissan Frontier 4 doors with low miles but I know nothing about Nissan or their quality, anything has to be better than the BS Im dealing with in regards to my 3.0!! Im hopeful that it will hold up for a while, I really dont think I want to put much more $$ into it though. What a headache!

Im taking the truck to another mechanic tomorrow to do a proper leakdown test and check all 6 cyls... Ill keep you posted as to what he finds. I noticed last night that the head bolts are VERY rusty for only being a year old with 8,000 easy miles, they charged me for new ones and claim to have used them, but it looks like they reused the old ones to me...

Good news, the head gaskets are holding fine. It passed a leak down test and had no coolant on any plugs. I paid the only mechanic that Ive ever trusted an hours labor to diagnose the problem. He found 2 coolant leaks, one was a bad clamp on front bypass hose the other was a bad bypass hose on the back by the firewall.... Now why didnt the dealership find these leaks when they had my truck for over a week and put die in the coolant???? Never again, I wouldn't take a lawn mower there!!

Im happy, I hope my 3.0 holds up, Im getting ready to slap some Thorley headers on it, its been more or less babied so I think its worth the investment.... Only time shall tell!!!!!

If it has sentimental value to you I would drive it until the 3.0 blows then swap in a 3.4 it is a great upgrade in mileage and power. In my opinion the 3.0 is not worth rebuilding when the time comes.

I've used them so many times I'm surprised they even want me to renew.
