motor swap, wont start
Just finished installing a new motor and trans into my truck. I swapped out a auto for my new 5spd. Go to start the truck and I get nothing. If I jump the terminals on the starter it cranks but hasn't fired yet
Now I'm thinking that that since I have the auto cab wiring and the standard engine wiring that the truck is looking for the park switch to say it's ok to start. Looking at wiring diagrams I think I am correct about this. I'm wondering how I can bypass this? Maybe hook the park switch to the clutch start switch?
I'm thinking if I run a 12v to the park neutral wire it should work, correct?

Got it working. Using the 5spd ecm, I had to cut the body harness from the 5spd truck and the engine harness from the auto, splice the 2 together. I had a mix up on one wire. Works perfect now! Truck is running!

Well lets go all out on this thread. What was the motor swap, was it the same motor just a new to you motor, or did you do something like a 3.0 to 3.4 swap, lets see some pics of your work

ecu
I'm using the auto ecu with my swapped manual 5-speed. It works fine. I do have the blinky O/D light problem, but that can be fixed once I stop being lazy. I even wired in a clutch cancel button. I had a manual ecu with all of my parts, but I did not see a reason do fool with it. The swap was really easy, I started on a Friday night at 10pm and was done Monday around 10am (after I got my driveshaft flanges swapped).

I found it easier since i put a motor in that had the manual harness on it, rather than taking off every connector and trying to battle with swapping harnesses. Worked great after that little hickup. How does the ecu respond thinking it's in neutral the whole time? I would think it might not have the right mapping for load conditions thinking it's just in neutral

I am not sure that the ecu corrects the fuel curve according to the trans. The elementary nature of the 3.0 ecus lead me to believe that it just likes to "get warm and pour fuel into the engine." I may be very wrong; however, I do get much better mileage with my 5-speed and I found (today, via gps) that my speed and odometer are dead on.
I do not think that my neutral/start setup is very far from the factory 5-speed setup.
