i have an 88 pickup 22re efi i have rebuilt the head 2 months ago. a drivability problem occurs whenever i get on the engine but never when i just cruise. the engine will cut out very quickly and comes back just as fast. the check engine light will glow just barely whenever this happens and i varies in rps so i am sure that it is something electrical since the computer throws the light. what does this sound like?

yea, under the hood is a small box that says "diagnostics" on it, under the cap you have a bunch of ports, jump E1 to TE1 and go back and count the blinking "check engine" lights. it flashes and pauses, breaking up the first and second digits of the code.
this is how it is on my 3.0 at least

not too familiar with this exact engine, just got mine a couple of weeks ago. but if there is a vacuum advance on the distributor, make sure you dont have a leak at all otherwise youll be misfiring slightly. could be a ground to the electronic control box, but if that is im almost positive the car would start and die right after, not stay running.
