I got a 88 2WD pick up, and I want to Raise it. Ive been reading a lot on this forum and Im almost ready to start buying the parts and all, Now 99% of the time its going to be Road Driven, But I want to be able to take to the dirt sometimes, since I live in Nevada. So I want a Suspension lift, but finding anything for a 2WD is hard, I have found a couple but a lot of whats said on the forum I hear its hard to get a 2WD raised. I am Also unsure of what Extra parts Ill need, like the current suspension is pretty worn out if I hit a bump hard enough is creaks and pops and almost bottoms out. Also how much of a lift would I need to run 31s? Would a Body lift maybe be more practical for what I want? Money isnt an issue so either way works for me.

it's not that it hard, just that there's not much available for a 2wd lift.
to run 31's you would need at least 3" of lift, either body, suspension or a combination of the two.

that being said...

suspension lift kits:

in the rear, you could have the leaf springs mounted on top of the axle which would get you about 3.5-4". add-a-leafs, extended shackles, new springs are options as well. combining these can get you more.
depending on your truck, the driveshaft may be an issue with more than 4-5" lift.

body lifts are also available. and would be the cheapest option, but I personally wouldn't run a body lift over 2" without gusseting or otherwise bracing the cab mounts.

it's true, the site's users are mostly 4wd oriented, but there are several of us with 2wd trucks too.

 

your best bet is to do a spring over axle conversion in the back, then crank the torsion bars as much as possible in the front and then drop the spindles by cutting and sleeving them, or buy the lift spindles or a long travel kit for big $$.

 

i know that this isnt helpful at all, but its a BIG pet peeve of mine... please say that you want to lift your truck... not raise it... its not a child...

 

What Abe said x100. Not much you can do. You can buy kits for $2k+ though. How much do you want to go?

actually, 1-2" up front is about 150, 2-3" jumps to about 600 bucks, and 2-3" is around 100 for the rear. anything more than that and the costs rise: anything more requires combining lift kits up front and replacing springs or fabrication on the rear.

 

Yes...ball joint spacers are pretty cheap. The rear is fairly cheap. I think I'll just buy the fabtech lift like your truck. Hmm...I wonder if Les Schwab could get the kit

Did you put the kit on yourself? Its really no big deal for me. And, are you using the stock torsion bars?

 

installed the kit myself. the kit came with up-rated sway-away bars, so they're not stock.

Anyway, Thanks for the info. I do want atleast a 3" LIFT But if cost doesnt match my plans then I will probably only do a 2" LIFT.

the 2 best places to start looking for parts and advice are http://www.dezertrangers.com/vb/ and http://www.race-dezert.com/. both have pretty good classified sections that have lots of toyota parts pop up but before you post anything in either forum, do a lot of searching or you will get a lot of crap.

 

i just lifted my buddies 2wd to fit 33x10.5 all we needed was 1.5" ball joint spacers (4crawler) and downey torsion bars for a 3.5" smooth riding suspension lift and pro comp es 9000s all around.
cost came out to 600
