Mirror help please

ok guys..i've been looking for months for driver and passenger side mirrors for my '86 toyota 4x4 and i cant find the right ones anywhere..

the bolt holes are too far apart on ALL of the ones that i find or buy..mine are 2.25" apart..and all the ones i find are like 2.75" apart or more..WTF?!?!?!?!

i've tried numerous mirrors ranging anywhere between '84-95..and none of them fit..whats the deal..i dont want to have to drill new holes to throw some mirrors on my truck..help me PLEASE!!..if anybody has any (and the holes on the bas are 2.25" apart) then shoot me an email at quackhead_91@yahoo.com

thanks!

all i remember was that the outside of the mirror (the side farthest from the cab) was rounded..

they werent squared like the rest of the mirrors i've seen..

I faced the same issue last year with my '86. I found some on e-bay for around $15 each.

but see..everybody has been telling me "these mirrors fit '86 pickups" and they never fit...ever..

and most peoples mirrors mount like 4 or 5 inches from the top of the door..my bolt holes are like and inch from the top.maybe 1.5"

were they the little chrome ones?
that had a chrome-rounded mounting type thing with a rubber backing to it?

i think it might possible be these that might work..
http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/sk...ts+%26+Mirrors

those are the closest thing to mine as i can find..

i had the local scrap yard order me some of a different kind..and if they dont fit..i will probably make them fit..because i have college on Wednesday and i have to drive the yota..

great...so my truck is a FREAKING ODDBALL!!!...damnit..this is very frustrating guys...

now i need to drill new holes in the truck..

unless i can find some more with the same mounting holes?? however its unlikely..

guess i could just use one of my holes in my truck..then just drill another .5" on the other side of the other hole..so it wont be that bad..other than drilling the hole..

You need to remember these Trucks have been around unless you owned from brand new no telling what you might find your doors could have come from anything that fit.

I think I had a similar problem taking those little Mirrors off and going to the bigger mirror I can see out of.

before you start drilling, see if the mounting for the mirror covers up the old hole....

camo: did you ever find the mirrors you needed?

i have a 86 as well and mine were all messed up. they have the same mounting place as yours. just a inch or two down from the edge of the door. but what happened with mine was that the PO drilled those holes out and then drilled two more down lower...like literally halfway down the door. and had the plastic inserts that help hold a screw for license plates in those holes. when i bought the truck it had no mirrors. just picked up some mirrors from a junkyard for a 80-81 pickup that have a similar mounting pattern but none of my holes match up. so im about to fabricate some brackets to mount them on my truck and cover up the holes the guy drilled in the doors. also, the mirrors i got today have no glass. so im taking the actual holder for the glass off and i bought me some replacement mirrors that have the swivel point for 10 bucks each from advance auto.

will post pics later.

basically, youre not the only one with some messed up mirror situation. i feel for ya.

i just got a new set of mirrors that are supposed to be for my truck..drilled the holes..put the plastic inserts in..then i just screwed on the mirrors..i gave up on trying to find the mirrors like i had before..they were obviously aftermarket, and probably not made anymore.
