Manual Hubs Lube and Endorsement

I dont post alot I just read for much information as possible.
But today, I have something to say. Last Christmas Albuquerque was hammered by two snow storms(very rare). But I was using 4WD alot. My hubs
were sooooo hard to lock I was using a pair of pliers to lock and unlock.
I feared the worst of a problem. But after resolving other issues and a new rebulit engine I got around to fixing the hubs. I went to my mechanic to see if
he could repair or replace them(Aisins were quoted at over 500 dollars for a pair). But after looking into it my mechanic told me that the hubs were dry
and the wear was only light, the hubs have never been lubed so there was the reason for the hard to lock hubs. My mechanic cleaned and repacked the hubs. I picked up the '90 4x4 22re std cab this morning, with hubs turning like silk. And saving me hundreds of dollars.

I have been very happy in finding a mechanic I can trust. He takes care of my
truck and my '03 Corolla too. So if you need a highly trained and expirenced Toyota mechanic in the Albuquerque area please contact.

Careful not to lube them up too much or they'll lock solid on ya!

A VERY light coat is all you need!

if you have to turn them with anything but your fingers then there is a problem. i learned this the hard way by filling mine up with mud and completely neglecting them and then wondering why they wouldnt lock for me without twisting them with a knucklebuster. after learning that lesson the hard way (destroyed warn hubs) i try to pop mine open frequently now just to make sure everything is in working order. all i do is clean them with some gasoline or diesel, lube them back up and be done.

i usually end up doing that when i change cv boots + repack wheel bearings. might as well do it all in 1 shot right?
