manual to auto swap 88 22re
so im selling my 88 22re automatic pickup to my brother to find myself a first gen 4runner. he doesnt want the auto trans so i told him i would find a 5 speed runner and swap the two out.
this may be a newb question but does the ecu/harness need to be swapped as well? or does it depend if one is sr5 or has power options and whatnot?
what would be the best option when looking for a runner? obviously a 4cyl but will power options make a difference? the pickup is a dlx with manual windows/doors.

auto to manual can be swapped with the auto ecu if you splice the wires to fool the ecu to think it's in park all the time so it will start. afaik.
maybe someone else, that knows more than i do,will chime in to confirm or not.
reread your post and i think it's gonna be more trouble than it's worth, what with the swapping of the engine harness, ecu, dash cluster, maybe dash harness and pedals/console etc.
i think i would just look for the runner you want option wise and maybe swap the auto to man in the truck or sell it outright.

well ive never done this swap before, hence the reason i ask, but the 4runner ive found is an 85 22re manual locks/windows so would it be possible to swap trans, shifters, and ecu's all together? i understand the auto has a few more wires and whatnot, but it seems swapping everything wouldnt be as hard as it sounds. the manual to auto would be the hardest part. just looking for help and what to watch out for and anyone thats had experience with the manual to auto would be greatly appreciated.
