Have you tried it in the hilift in the "winching" config? I did once and decided a winch was a better option. I just didn't like the positioning if something kicked back. I didn't have any problems but figured an oz of pecuation worth a lb cure. Maybe I wasn't doing it right.

Hold the phone. Don't you have OBA? If it still works then why don't you air down more often or air down to lower pressures?

Airing down works a bit, but it also lowers the clearance. You can't float on powdery snow so really, your hoping the tires sink down and grab something solid underneath like the fall snow. The fall snow is a bit icy, so that's were the chains/ studs/ siping come in.

later in the season, once the snow has compacted a bit and is more dense, then I'll deflate the tires as its too dense to cut through and dense enough to drive on top often.

My buddy had OBA it worked sweet and like 10X better than my Habor freight high volocity pump. Never froze up nor had the thermal cut off to worry about. We take the coleman stove and fix coffee or hotdogs while we wait.

thermal cut off = ice in the lines? Never had that happen yet.

You probably won't ever, but mine does if really cold or hot. And it never happens when both tires across the axle are at the same pressure, lockers don't like that either.

We're talking OBA air lines right? Getting water in there might freeze them up though pumps put out hot compressed air, so that may melt any ice.

Were you referring to tire pressures and lockers? Makes a bit of a difference on road and none off road.

The freeze/thermal shutoff thing is talking about the down side to using a high velocity electric air compressor compared to OBA. But hey I for now in Wa can live without A/C but southern Tx is more enjoyable with A/C.

Yes lockers like it when both tires on an axle are the same psi, a difference effects the tires diameter the effecting tire speed. And seems like all tires on a 4wd should be same presseure too.

im planning my build right now.. my trail rig i might drive it on the road next winter...
im going to lock the front.. need a front and rear locker for offroad.. rear is already welded...

then im going to get a 4.10 elocker when i have the money this summer.. they go for 400 at my junkyard. so when i drive in the snow.. ill just use 2wd open diff on the roads...

Tire flavor of the day is the General Grabber AT2. As much as I'd like a full-blown MT, I don't need one. I think an aggressive AT would be all I really need in all honesty (desires aside). I'm doing a 4000 mile road trip this summer, so longevity is good, as is low(er) rolling resistance.

Not too bad eh? Now, to decide whether to get the 235/85r16 or 31x10.5s

The 31x10.5r15 are $114/tire at Tirerack.com, they're pretty cheap.

I picked up some pro-comp xtreme A/T's and they are plenty aggressive. They were cheap and they also have a 40k mile warranty

i ran the coopers, and they aren't great in the snow and ice, maybe a 5/10 vs bfg at, but over they are good tires. better in the mud than the bfg, but not snow/ice.

my bad, didn't read ahead,

where do you live, it looks awesome.

Amazing coincidence eh? Ah well, who says the copy is worse than the original- the original Land Cruiser (the BJ if I recall) was a near exact copy of the army jeep (some parts were even interchangeable).

Look like a BFG with bigger voids. I've never owned a TA/KO, but they look (and apparently do) fill up pretty quick in mud. While I don't go mudding, I do encounter it on my fishing trips, so i want somehting that works alright, but ice and snow safety is paramount.
