My guess would be wristpin or rod knock. It's definitely knocking, and it's coming from the bottom end, that much is clear to me just from that short video clip.

yea, i know its not the fuel pump arm now. put the old one back on, ran it off the fuel in the bowl, and did the same thing. i just dont get how it could have happened, the truck sat for two weeks and then ran for about 2 minutes.

Just listened/watched the video again. That's definitely a top end knock. Knocks louder than my husbands did when his was knocking. Time for a new rotating assembly or complete engine. She's done for. The head there shouldn't be a problem with unless there's a problem with the valvetrain or if the surface is warped.

Start pulling those plugs one by one and see if the noise goes away or gets quieter. It seems quieter then when I completely spun one of my rod bearings out. And a lot lighter/hollower sounding. Also start checking that valve train as well. Small possibility that one of the rockers are bad since the engine was most likely over rev'd. Maybe a valve bent or something bu somewhat unlikely. I doubt it has anything to do with it sitting for two weeks. I think too much starter fluid or whatever you used to start it that one time over rev'd the engine which is why touching the throttle did nothing to slow it down.

That's not too bad of a deal. Toyota engines are getting harder and harder and more and more expensive to find. Is it still in the truck to where you can hear it run, or is there a guarantee? Don't like seeing anybody getting ripped off..

All you'll need to do is find a harness out of a truck from your year on up to 95. I was going to say you would only need the computer forward, but you're going to need the efi harness for the fuel pump too..

If you can find a good tank then you can just swap out the tanks. I live in Rust Country USA .. so if it were for me I'd just buy the new pickuptube and pressure lines from toyota and run all original toyota from the tank to the engine, but you may be able to find something in decent shape out there that's not rotted like what I come across. The lines for efi and carb are different though.

that depends on the model year of the motor he's looking at buying doesn't it? 84or85 (can't remeber off the top of my head) They changed the deck height or something of the block right? so would the wiring be different as well? also wouldn't you have to have the efi stuff off the proper style block?

I am aware of the model year of his truck, he could go farther back on the model year of the motor for efi parts, back to the first year of this block style (like i said in my previous post 84 or 85 i think they changed.)
What i was getting at, is that he mentioned on the first page of this thread; is that he may be going to look at another motor, and may just swap them. My question was on the model year of the motor he was checking on. (which i belive he said the motor he was looking at was also an 87, in his build thread)
I didn't intend to step on anybody's toes, and also, sorry for cluttering the thread Hillbilly.

If you find an 88 and can't get the donor harness from that specific truck pass on it. 88's will only work with 88's. Fuel pump/tank issue can be solved by simply using a universal external pump/filter capable of putting out stock pressure and flowrate. Must upgrade fuel hoses to EFI rubber though at least the pressure and return sides.
86-87 are the same, then 88 then 89-95. Most important part is keeping the matched sensors with harness. For example you can use an 86 with 89-95 harness and sensors/injectors etc. And vice versa. Same can go for the 88 as well, but 88 harnesses must use 88 electronics.
I hope I have those years right. I don't remember anything being different between 86-95 though.
This table will help for the most part. Some may work with others, which one's I am not sure without studying the table better, but using this table will somewhat be failsafe. It does somewhat contradict my above years.
