you can get different exhaust housings for the turbo to make it a top mount or bottom. the 16g is prob my favorite turbo of all time that isn't a BB turbo. besides the holset hx35 and hx40. google those... MONSTER TURBOS... they spool incredibly fast with crazy top end power. you can find them off cummins diesels.

Not here to burst your bubble, but there is no way to get this motor hitting 200 ponies on 2k, well not for very long anyways. Go here: www.22rte-trucks.com/simplemachinesforum and do some reading.

Thanks for the link boostedRNR. I've been reading from that site for a couple weeks now. I've got an idea what I'm getting myself into. But any personal experiences of your own are appreciated.

Also, Boosted: what's the specs on your T3? When do you start to build boost? What amount of boost are you running?

I'll have to check. I start to build boost around 2k and am at full boost around 2500, but I'm only pushing six or seven lbs of boost. I can't run any more boost or I start pinging even with my timing lower than stock specs.

I'm surely buying used. I plan to tap the block for oil, I'm sure I can tap it for coolant too. Still haven't found out where to tap anyways, lol

There's a guy around here that runs a GT28R on is 22R-TE, makes 200whp, and if I remember correctly, ~260wtq. Builds boost fast.

I really thing you are not being realistic n your goals....Not that 200hp is not attainable in these engines, it is; but I don't think that you wil get there on the budget that you are proposing. You need to talk to people that have already been down the road that you are starting on. There are two guys that come to mind. Jeff Moskovitz ("Mosk" on the 22rte website) and Darin Ginther ("dcg9381" on the 22rte website).
These two guys have given a lot of time and money to these engines, they have tried a lot of different things to get to that allusive 200hp goal and they have their own websites.
Jeff's website is:- http://www.well.com/user/mosk/
Darin's website is:- http://22returbo.net/#
Talking to these guys can save you a lot of time and money.

Thanks Hadmatt54. been doing lots of reading and I know there is more. Hardest part is finding a deal on the stand alone.

Picking up my buddies ct26 and his 440 injectors. He isn't charging me, but the turbo will need to be rebuilt and I will get the injectors cleaned and tested.

There's the first 2-3 hundred spent.

Please, please, please get the turbo rebuilt professionally!!! I learned the hard way. I bought the rebuild kit off ebay, which was a hundred and then they have you ship the turbines to them to balance for free. I did this and got it all together and it was making a weird rattling noise when it started to boost. Long story short, I got pissed and finally just forked out $400 to have it rebuilt professionally. These things spin faster than you could even imagine and can come apart very fast if slightly off balance. I would never attempt to rebuild another turbo after the stuff I've read and the stories I've heard.

What was the cause of the weird rattling noise?

I guess the turbine shaft must have been just barely out of balance. I even assembled it back together with the balance lines lined up. Maybe it somehow got jarred from shipping, I dunno

I've tracked down an uncut harness and ecm with turbo cluster with tach. Mostly interested in the harness and ecm, but I imagine the cluster would work too.

What else would I need wiring/computer wise?

turbo

Take everything! Head light to tail light. The engine harness too. Toyota liked to change things like plugs and position of the pins in the plugs. I went through that already. Put a built 22ret in my 4runner that had a 22re. Lots of work but it was worth it. I have about 3k into my engine with the turbo, manifold and inner cooler and rebuild with eagle rods and forged pistons. Jeff and Darin helped me out a lot. 2 great guys. I'm hittin' boost by 2,000rpm and a max of 15lbs of boost. My runner is FAST. I have 42'tsl's 4:88's and turbo trans.(low 1st gear) 0-60 it will smoke my '97 z-71 no BS.
