I switched from ADD on my 93 to Warn Premium Manuel Hubs. I love them. I did notice a slight increase in mileage when they are unlocked. Although V6's with automatic suck for mileage. Here is my write-up on my swap.

i didn't say that ADD was reliable. i don't have any driving experience with ADD so i wouldn't be in any position to comment on that. i only said that with ADD, you can be sure that the front axle will spin with the wheel (because of the drive flanges). the axles will spin 100% of the time. if auto hubs work for you, then more power to you. let's leave it at that. i think Belize got his answer.

Cheap, easy to install, stronger and more reliable, and they look cooler!

 

basicly manual hubs work better but it sucks when u have to get out in mud/rain/snow to lock them in

 

I put a set of the Warn hubs on mine (I know, I know, I should have gone Aisin, but the Warn were brand new and cheaper). After my 3.4 swap, I didn't have the VSVs wired up, so I just bypassed them by hooking a vacuum line directly to the passenger side of the ADD actuator.

Once the front hubs are locked, it's a simple matter of pulling the transfer case lever and voila, I'm in. You're right, getting in and out is a minor pain, but well worth it.

 

Warn hubs do not use cone washers and are prone to loosening. Every set of Warn manual hubs I've seen on a Toyota I've checked by hand had at least 2 nuts loose per manual hub.

Aisins are a much better choice and more expensive for a reason!

 

Aisin hubs are stronger than Warn. Seems like people are asking less for the Aisin hubs lately. The Aisin hubs also stick out less but hey I've seen tons of domestics running Warn without any problems.

 

I've also seen tons of domestics running around on airbags or huge lift blocks with 14 inches of lift and 24 inch wheels with 37 inch tires without any problems either.........

lets start doing this to all of our Toyotas too!!! Imagine how cool we could look!!!

a little off topic, but do they make auto/manual hubs for toyotas? My stepdads f250 has them and its nice, when you dont want to get wet/dirty they automatically lock in but you can still manually lock them in to make sure they are locked in, its the best of both.

 

excellent question, as my dad has an 2002 F250 4x4 with the same hubs and i was about to ask the same question...it would be awesome if some kind of conversion/kit would let you do this on a 'yota...

 

that's a little wierd, so they act like auto hubs, and you can also choose to lock them if you want?

do the dials actually flip to "locked" when they get automatically locked?

no, they like auto hubs, but if you want you can go out and manually lock them, to avoid the unreilability of auto hubs if you want. annother way to say it is auto hubs with a manual override.
