The detroits or spools mite work better than mine on ice with differnt tires. Swampers and lockers with ice on the roads means im not driveing it

I am running BFG MT KM....I will say it wasnt a pleasant drive drinking coffee and talking on the phone. I had to keep on the throttle and constantly correct the fish tails.
I think If your gonna DD on a rear locker you need to know how to drive and leave your swampers in the garage.

it will eat tires if u give it gas the whole time around the corner. i dont think it will eat tires bad if u left off the gas around the corner then give a tiny bit gas at the apex

kinda a thread jack, but IF you had a full floater kit and a locker or welded/spooled rear dif then could you run one of the rear hubs unlocked?? or will it hurt thr gears at all??
i mean, in theory, it would trick the truck into thinking that the rear is spinning all the time, right??

Amen to everything Dirt Master80 and plumbrbob said. A selectable is great but pricey. Welded or a spool is a little rough on the tread and squeaky around corners but it is 100% predictable and reliable. ovrrdrive is the only person i have ever heard say anything good about a lunch box lockers road manners or reliability.

Yes that works you just have to rotate. run one side for a week and then run the other side for a week.

If you do decide to go with an auto locker then I recommend the Aussie. I run one in my pickup and it's a DD during the week and a weekend trail rig. I've had very few issues other than some snow problems but that was due to terrible traction conditions with ice and me not airing down. In fact I like the Aussie so much that I'll be running them front and rear on the new trail rig.
