hey guys,
i am looking to get rid of the open diff up front but cant seem to find an e-locker for the 7.5inch ifs diff i have up front, i was wondering if a limited slip would work just as well? this is a daily driver and doesnt go offroad often but when it does i love to just completely destroy those big fords and stuff. n e way how good does limited slip work? or should i just wait and keep looking for an e-locker?

You won't find an elocker, since they aren't made for the 7.5" diff.
No, a limited slip isn't as good as a locker. I disliked mine a lot, but many, including 4crawler on here, have had good success. Since this is a truck that doesn't go offroad often, I'd think you'd be fine with the LSD, after some practice with the various techniques for driving with it.
Just don't expect it to work like a locker.

You can put an LSD out of a Supra (unsure what year) in the 7.5 IFS front on your rig. 4crawler has a write up on his site on how to do it. I think it'd be a damn good little combination to have an e-locker in the rear and an LSD in the front.

One thing that really gets you with traction on the ifs is raising a tire off of the ground. With a Limited Slip, once that tire is off of the ground, kiss any traction upfront good bye.
With a locker you won't have to worry about it.
I have an arb up front right now, but switching to aussie soon.

I can think of numerous instances where I've been climbing a slippery, off-camber hill and when the truck begins to lose a little momentum applying the brake pedal allows it to hook back up.

x2 on the truetrac. that's what I'm planning on running up front since my 4runner is my daily driver. I plan on keeping my IFS, so I'm going to be getting my 7.5 set up with a truetrac and 4.88s, and my rear with the toyota factory e-locker in a trail-gear rock stomper rear housing. An ARB air locker would be the absolute best for the front, but its a huge investment for a sometimes-wheeled-machine. That's my logic at least. Then again, I predict my truck will see more air than rocks, so I will be building accordingly.

ARB locker in the front with IFS = bad idea.
Thats crazy..hope you have some wicked CV's to take the abuse. If your gonna spend $1200 and get serious with a locker, just get a SFA to go with it.

how many ARB front IFS lockers have you ran in your IFS? or any lockers at all?

I'm thinking the LSD in the front would be a good idea. Better traction than an open and it would allow for steering. I believe it would be a better investment than a full locker.
As for 88 he has the right idea...go ARB that way you have the best of both worlds. Lock when you need it and unlock to turn.
Come spring I hope to get a lock-rite for the rear on the Runner.

Seriously! I run with 3 guys (AxleIke and ~TC~) all have ARB's and IFS. It all comes down to driver skill. And the few times they have broken a CV it was driver error - and they'll admit that! Also another bonus with an ARB is that you have a strong compressor that you can use to air up at the end of the day if you don't have CO2. I have a TruTrac in Tippy and boy what a PITA it is. I had to use the brake technique all the time since I was always lifting a front tire. FWIW - using the brake technique gives you 3/5ths of the "power" of a selectable locker but it is hard to master the finesse of the brake trick.

i never said because you have ARB that you,ll never break a cv. all i was asking was the experience woth them. the arb can unlock and lock. it came across to me that they were saying because of the ARB, you would break more cv's. not true. the broken cv's i've seen have also been by driver error. if i mess one up chances aee it'll be my fault. but to say because of the arb i woll break a lot of cvs just doesnt make sense.

If you drive only on roads or 'wheel easy stuff where you aren't likely to unload or lift a tire, a LSD works fine. Unfortunately, the rest of the time, you get all the drawbacks of a locker (lack of stability on slick offcamber, etc) without many of the benefits (traction when you really need it)
