jumpy accel and deccel

when I apply any pressure to the throttle i get this jump when i take my foot off, or barely press down on it. Seem to happen most in 1st and 2nd, i think because when i am in first my rpms aren’t very low. like when i am in 4th or 5th i don't know but if you have any ideas, it is hard not being able to drive in 1st because i look like an idiot that can't drive a manual.

Are there any other symptoms, or change in behavior?

Is this an all of a sudden, new problem?

Does it warm up and idle at the correct rpms?

well i have other problems, but they might have nothing to do with this. this has always done this for about a year since i got it. it idle's at the right RPM's, kind of. My idle is really bad, so it shakes alot. the worst is when i let off the accel and the truck slams almost to a stop if i am going slow. and then i put pressure on it again, and the truck jumps forward.

I've got almost the exact same problem on my 3.0, but with a smooth idle and in the high gears also at certain speeds. I think it's the TPS switching between rich mode/lean mode, but I can't really figure it out. Ideas, people?

What rpm does it idle at?

The easiest check to see if its the TPS is to remove the connector to the TPS (being carefull to not break the plastic clips holding the connector in place). If the symptoms go away, the TPS is misadjusted or bad (or the physical idle position is not being hit because of friction somewhere). You will throw a code, but it will clear when you reconnect the TPS.

I'd also check the dashpot for proper operation. That's what it sounds like to me. I had a similar problem.

Right... anything that prevents the full physical return to idle. The dashpot is easy to inspect for that... it should be clear of its push-point (if I recall correctly).

Actually, it's the TOO EARLY return to the full physical idle that can cause jumping...

Right again... I was addressing the idle problem, not the original "jumping" problem.

Have you checked you air intake for any cracks or splits? They can be hard to spot. I had a split in the air intake on my Camry and I had to start off in second gear before I figured it out. I had already looked once and missed it.

It would start bucking when I took off in first gear. Doesn't sound exactly like yours, but it wouldn't hurt to look.

UPDATE:

Will i replaced my transmission and it runs great now, kind of an expensive fix. But i also fixed like 20 other problems i was having. The day it started jumping out of 3rd was the end of waiting for me. Plus i got a 4 mpg increase so i should pay off the price of a new tranny in about 20 - 30 years
