It sounds so awesome when you floor it that you do that all the time without thinking about it?
Actually, in all seriousness, when I first did mine I noticed a drop in mileage. I keep my foot out of it now, and my mileage is about where it should be with 33's and 4:10's.

Well yeah, the rev limiter is that high, but my shift light on my Autometer tach is set lower before the rev limiter... I noticed I mistyped too, I meant to say about 4 and 3/4 grand... just before 5 thousand RPMs, I'll leave it at that, lol. I really find no need to take her over 5 grand that often; plus my 22re has 284k original miles on it, so the less stress I put on it the better, lol

I have had my 3vze up to 6200rpm, Didn't stay there long so I woudlnt know where the rev limiter is..
As for the ISR mod - I noticed almost no change at all. Running 3" ID pipe, no change in mpg, a LITTLE better throttle response and no change in sound.

Yes, the only real way to change the sound of your intake is to run a less restrictive filter, like a K&N.
But I do not like how little the K&N actually filters. So I would rather run my stocker paper filter for peice of mind.

Honestly I noticed a huge throttle response gain after I ran seafoam through my brake booster line. Immediately after sitting and running all that stuff out I heard a very attractive vroom.
I like the sound and the probably slight increase in throttle response from my ISR mod.
But again, I did mine because I ripped my intake trying to put new plugs in.
The replacement part was something sick like $60 so I spent $30 and I feel like I accomplished something

I noticed an increase so far.
Was getting 12ish city, now around 15. I got 20 MPG the other day. Mainly highway with winter gas, winter air, and 3 people, oh and hills. Spiffy.
I did the same exact thing as you infiltrator, except I took off ALL the IS, but then put one back on because of how obnoxious it sounded. I sealed mine up with silicone too.
I recently changed the sparks to NGK G-Power, and the wires to NGK. I'll be doing the cap & rotor pretty soon, as the PO put crap autozone on. Also changed oil to Mobil1 High Mileage.
Still need to change the cap and rotor, fuel filter, flush trans/t-case, clean throttle body, and do another seafoam treatment. (1/2 in booster line, 2 - 3 in tank). Need to rotate the tires soon too (& balance) and probably put manual hubs on, as that will help with highway miles.
After all is said and done, I have increased my MPG quite a few.
Good luck on your quest for mileage, I support you!

just for kicks disconnect the positive wire to your battery for at least 10 secs and then reconnect it and see what happens. by disconnecting the battery, you reset the ecu's settings. make sure you drive how you normally would because even though these are pretty primitive computers, they do adjust settings to your driving style. i just did it with mine after going from sea level to 7000ft and had noticable improvements in my mpg.

i was thinking this over all day. the only thing i can come up with is that since it flows better it can more volume with less effort. but since the air pressure is constant it moves more air. the afm see more air and adds more fuel to keep optimum fuel ratio. just my .02.
