Introduction and 4x4 issue

Hey guys
My name is Steven, I live in Ventura, CA. Anyone else around here?

I just bought a 1992 Toyota pickup manual 5s 4x4 with the 3.0L motor in it about a week ago, and i'm definitely loving it. This truck is primarily a work vehicle and used for carrying stuff around, but I will be taking it on some off-roading trips with friends.

But I have run into a little issue with the 4x4, for some reason it will not stay in 4L. It runs fine in 2H and 4H. I can shift into 4L, but the shifter does not want to stay in gear. If I put it in 1st or 2nd and and hold the shifter in 4L while i let off the clutch it stays in gear until i push the clutch in again, and it slides out. It did not do this on the test drive, or the first time I took it out, but it did it yesterday for the first time and this morning.

Any idea on what could cause this?

Thanks
Steven

a little more info, I was playing around with the 4x4 again yesterday and it seemed to be staying in gear, but it was about 50-50 today staying in and coming out (i put it in gear about 4 times and it stayed in 2 times).

Any one else have any ideas on what could be causing something like this?
