Installing roof rails

I've been wanting to put a basket on the roof of my first 4runner for the last few months. With the coleman basket at only $75 it seems that a roof rack got bumped to the top of my list of what to add to the 4runner. I've considered mounting it on the stock rain gutters, but I don't like the look and it'll cover my sunroof. I considered just bolting it to the fiberglass shell, although this is nice since it'll sit lower I'm a little afraid of not being able to take off the basket in case I have to go into a parking garage or not being able to take if off if I want to mount something like bikes or snowboards.

I'm now looking to add roof rails to the fiberglass top of my 4runner. I know Yakima has some (which are pretty pricey), but are there any other companies that make roof rails? I am considering picking up one off a 2nd gen 4runner, but I'm not sure if it'll fit. Anyone done this before? Or can anyone measure how wide and long the stock roof rails on a 2nd gen 4runner are? Between the glass in the back of the 4runner I only have 37 3/4" to play with. Thanks

I did the Yakima rails...the whole set up is super slick and clean and factory looking and everything locks. I dont think its too much to pay if it gets it done right. I dontneed somebody walking off with thousands in bikes or snowboards and it all goes on and off and locks in a couple minutes.

Thanks Reggie, I've seen your thread before and have been planning on doing the same thing. The only thing I'm worried about is the width of the roof rack, considering that the first gen rear windows curve with the body and make up part of the roof. So can anyone measure the stock roof rack from a 2nd gen 4runner for me? Thanks
