I'm Back

Alright its been 5 years and I'm finally back. I had to sell all my toyotas to grow my business but I found a deal tonight I couldnt pass up. Ive got a pretty good base for my project I think.

This is what I got:

95 Black 5 speed Limited 4runner 3.0

It has zero rust and is fresh out of california.

173K

Now the bad. It has a loopy idel after it warms up. Not sure if it vaccume related or what. Crusies just fine but at idle it surges up and down. Any ideas? I havent gotten the chance to dig into it as I just got it back home. Just thought I would check in first! Thanks in advance and Im glad im back!

Check the TPS sounds like it's "hunting" for idle.

That's what I was thinking! I remember I had to adjust my old 95 I used to have. As soon as I take it out of gear it starts surging so it really seems like its hunting. But once I get on the gas it's gone.

Pull the vacuum hose off the top of the EGR Vacuum valve. If the idle settles down, you've got hoses hooked up wrong somewhere or an IACV has gone bad.

I was inspecting the throttle body and the bolt was missing out of the top of the TPS sensor, and the connector was cracked on the sensor so someone touched it! I put the new one on but havent set it yet. The dang battery was dead in my ohm meter. Sooo I got a new sensor and bolts put it on real quick and still now fix but I still need to set the TPS. I'm going to go through the vaccums tomorrow. Where would that IACV be? I'm a little rusty on the good old 3.slow its been a while! I just need to get this thing driveable, eventually there will be a 3.4 slid in its place Now this thing is originally from California. Did they put any extra egr goodies on them, it didnt look any different from the other two second gens I had. It also looks like they put new wires and a cap and rotor on. hmmmmmmm...

IACV is on the throttle body with two coolant hoses connected to it.

Well problem solved. Turns out it was the the right bank head gasket. Toyota did the recall in 2007 at 99K kinda crappy the replacement gaskets only lasted 70K! I found a solution to fixing it tho..

3.4 swap! See ya later 3.slow, I have wanted to do this to the past two 4runners I have had and none of them had this nice of body that this one does. Sooo Im in the process of hunting for a good donor right now. This thing is going to be awesome when I am done with it. Ill keep the internet world updated!
