I'm trying to buy an e-locker w/a 4:30 diff. I know all about what needs to be modded for the rear axle. Since I have 4:10s, I'm also wanting to buy his front 4:30 diff. It's from a '99 4Runner. I don't think it's a bolt on anymore since it's a '99 right?. What do I need to do to get those 4:30s in the front of my diff? Would it be better to just buy the rear and get new 4:30s? I'm getting the front diff for an extra $100. Is it worth it?

Off the cuff I vaguely recall that the later "vertical split" front diffs (Taco = 95+) share the same internals as the 7.5.....
[goes into the library]
Well according to the Randy's diff book, the carrier is the same but the ring is reverse cut, so NO - there's not much to use there...
Now if it were me - Id be interested to see if the 7.5 IFS early R&P would FIT in the case.
The idea being that there is a greater potential for more CV shaft length to gain wheel travel

Thanks for the reply. Where can I read up more about it? I've been searching on the forum, but there is tons of stuff to weed through.. and you are saying, you're wondering if my current 7.5" 4:10s would fit in the newer diff? Just for kicks.

Ok, a lil more searching and I found a link to a site with more info. Here is what I found:
"Tacoma's, Tundra's, Sequoia's, and 3rd gen 4Runners have a high-pinion 7.5" IFS front diff offset to the drivers side. The high-pinion design is used so that the rack and pinion steering and anti-sway bar on these vehicles can run under the front driveshaft. The housing is a unique bolt-together design. The carrier inside is exactly the same as the '86-95 IFS diffs, so LSD's and lockers for it are also the same. However, since this is a high-pinion diff, the gears for it are different (reverse-cut) than the earlier diff. There is an ADD and non-ADD version of this diff as well.
These diffs use different gear sets than the earlier IFS diff because of the high-pinion design.
* I've heard that the latest model V8 4runners now have an 8" IFS diff. I have no info on this one yet"
So I guess I better start shopping for an 86-95 IFS 4:30. Anyone got one for sale? Lol Someone let me know if I'm wrong please.

Thanks, I will check with him. If it won't work, I will just have to buy a ring & pinion new, drop the front diff & have it installed. Thanks guys.
