IFS to SAS..SAS High maintenance issues??

Living in the same area as the o.p. I can tell you why the yota mechanic said what he did. We live in toyota land, 50% of the pop. out here drives a toyota not kidding. Now the local steelership hasn't worked on a solid in over 10 years and has downsized any old school techs to the street to keep from paying them more. Now all the new kids look at leaking knuckles and worn drag links or sacked out leaf springs and wonder why you even bother with one. So most run ifs and see it as lesser repairs not true. Just like it was said normal maint. same, breakage around here not the same. I have customers who sas'd to keep from replacing ball joints every other year and idler arms every six mon.

um... SFA y well if u were to step back and look at things, and yes i know im diggin a thread from the grave, but why did toyota only offer ifs in america until what mid 90's . everywhere else was straight axled front. that has to say something about dependability and also maintenance. just my 02 cents

I absolutely love my solid front axle! I love the way it drives, performs, its ease of maintenance. I have done nothing in terms of maintenance since the swap and I have wheeled it pretty hard.
If my 82 had IFS I would be beating the brush for a solid front axle.
