IFS axle shaft breaking before CVs

Anyone heard of this happening? It happened to me last weekend, and I was curious how common it is.

Never heard of that happening but if you need it, I've got spares.

My last two CV's have broken in the outer splined section, not the actual joint.

Here's a pic of the most recent one:

(took a lot of gearing, front locker only, and some happy throttle to do it)

Nice clean break. Twisted that puppy right off like a bottle cap.

I'm sitting here with both peices in my hand. Wondering how I managed to break everything else first. Couple ring & pinions, chewed my side gears out once. Yep, traction kills.

That ring of material where the seperation occurs is only 1/4". WTF is with that? I imagine I'll be needing of fairly constant supply of these in the future.
