Idler pully

On my 90 yota pick up 4x4. i am having trouble with the idler pully. first happend on the freeway. the bearings seized up and snaped the belt. so i replaced both belts and the idler pully. i noticed after puting it back on it was smoking. and realized the cover plate that goes over it was rubbing on the pully. so i took it off and it seemed fine but now i can still here it rubbing and i notice while driving. anyone else have this problem? what did you do to fix it? thanks everyone

P.S.Yota tech is good people!!

This is a new one. Never heard of that.

Hmm...so the new pulley rubs on the cover. Did you install the rubber gasket on the cover before you put it back together? If it was missing that would put the cover closer to the pulley. It's all I can fathom at this point, besides you got the wrong part. Man that's really weird....let's see what some other people think...give it a minute...patience...

that happened to me... i forgot to put the rubber gasket on.... stupid me.. putting it back on fixed it.. just had to deal with it loosening a bit until it found out it was supposed to be there and stayed tight.

The gasket is the logical culprit, but maybe see if the rear timing cover is bent pulling the front cover inward. Wouldn't hurt.
