Idle speed ?'s

My truck was idling kind of low after it got to operating temperature recently. When i was adjusting the idle speed tonight I noticed how smooth it idled at 900-1000 RPM. My question is this: Is it a bad idea to set the idle speed a little higher than what the sticker on the underside of the hood reccomends ?(750 RPM in 2wd/850 RPM in 4wd) Will my gas mileage suffer significantly?

TIA

Will only effect your gas mileage while idling. If you don't idle for extended periods then it won't matter to mileage. There may be some effect on the life of the catalytic converter, but I really doubt it will matter at all.

That said, properly tuned it should idle smooth as silk right down to stalling (around 300 rpm!) You might just check your cap, rotor, wires, plugs, etc...
