idle s up and down update!

Ok a few weeks ago i came to this web site looking for some answers to problems I have with my 92 22 re reg cab. .....update .... new long block ....(blown head gasket) When I put the new block in It fired up right away.. but It would not idle in normal range even when warmed up. so after trying many of your ideas it seems to be better.....I checked and regrounded all the grounds, burped it and toped off coolant ,took off and cleaned egr ,replaced maf sensor. yesterday it stared to idle right after it was warmed and had been driven around town . my ? is is it true that after you install a new motor the computer takes some time to see this and to adjust. Any ideas are welcome ten heads are still better than 1 Thanks Gearmax!
