Idle Air Control Valve

Okay, here's what's happening. I've been having idle problems/bad gas mileage for a while now. I suspected the IACV as part of the problem. I have removed it.

My question is, is it supposed to be completely open when cold, or does it depend on air temp? Mine is maybe 1/4 of the way open. I put it in the freezer, and no change.

I put a torch to it, and it opened further. Isn't it supposed to close when hot?

This would explain my idle surge/running lean/fuel mileage problems, as it would be passing extra air at operating temp.

Thanks for the help!

Hehe.....yes, it closes when hot. Seems you've found a problem.
