idle adjustment, afm adjustment, & timing questions

Good friday morning

Not too long ago i did a tune-up on my truck cap, rotor, wires, plugs, filters.... Anyhow, ever since I did this my 4 runner's been idling at about 1k rpm after I've driven it for a bit and put it into park. I figured I just had to drop the idle a bit so i tried turning the idle adjustment screw on the throttle body. this barely had an effect though as I must have turned it at least two complete turns before the idle went down to approx. 800. So, after doing this, the truck drove more sluggish and my mileage dropped. Am I doing something wrong here?

also, i've tried doing a search for how to adjust the air flow meter (2 clicks) but cant seem to find it anywhere. Are there instructions somewhere on how to do this? i gotta increase my mileage cause this truck is suckin me dry. (3.slow, automatic).

finally, theoretically speaking, by retarding the timing, is it possible to increase mileage by doing this? I have a 91 camry that had its timing retarded 5* and it got me 300 miles (city/highway mix) to the tank and 360 miles to the tank on long highway trips.

How do you figure retarding the timing will increase gas mileage? By sending out unburned fuel?

Need to advance timing. Spec is 10*BTDC, lots of people running 12*BTDC. When I bought mine, it was at 0*BTDC - much better performance and mileage now that it's set right!
