I really hate when I do something stupid!

Doing a the first tune up today on my '86 and was going to replace the PCV. It wouldn't come out so I tried with a pair of pliers. Bad idea. It broke off flush with the top of the valve cover. So I took the valve cover off cause I thought that I could poke it through from the bottom. I found out that there is a shield that prevents you from doing this. So in trying to get it out with a pair of needle noses, I ended up just breaking the whole thing.

I think that I got most of it out, but what I'm wondering is if a few pieces of plastic floating around my valve area is going to do any damage? I wouldn't think so, but...? Also is the PCV gasket a replaceable item? Thank for any input.

Anything floating around in your valves, besides oil, is a bad idea.

PCV "gasket" is a rubber grommet, and yes its replaceable.

BTW on those earler 22R engines, i believe you can unbolt the baffles inside the valve cover? Worth checking anyways

Or, just spray some cleaner and rinse it out. It will come out.

It's worth going to Toyota for the replacement parts...IME. They're not expensive and are better than generic.

And, don't feel bad. It's happened to a lot of people.

Thanks for the advise. It didn't look to me like there was any way that the baffle would come out. I think I will try running something through there and get a new grommet. The old one is so brittle that is just chips off.
