Give us some details...What year and model of vehicle is the 5 spd in? What is the auto out of? Long wheel base, short wheel base, 2wd or 4wd, etc.

The one from my '87 a340H threaded right into the tcase that was behind a '86 W56. The port for the speedo is about 4" further back in the truck than the 5MT, so if they're different, is probably just that the one for the auto is longer.

Should work just fine.

Napa told me it was a dealer only part.

I got mine from Toyota for $115 a few years back and they didn't ask if it was for an automatic or manual.

I am pretty sure they were trying to pull a quick one on you. The length of the cable itself isn't the problem. The problem with the Napa cable are the fittings on both ends of the cable. The end that plugs behind the cluster is smaller than the OEM, therefore it doesn't fit. As for the end that plugs into the VSS, the cable that is protruding out has a ridge that is thicker than the OEM, therefore, that doesn't fit as well.

I meant Napa, hence it was bolded out.

Me too...I was saying Napa probably did the right thing by directing me to Toyota since Napa doesn't have the right cable.
