I can't get my idle right!!!

So when I bought the truck it would idle at 2000 in park and 1400 in drive that was with the idle screw turned all the way in. I cleaned the TB and checked for vacuum leaks. That cleared up the problem, but now it idles at 800 in park and 500 in drive. When I turn the idle screw to adjust it so idles at 800 in drive then the idle is at 1400 in park.

Somebody told me it is normal. Is this true or is there another adjustment I can make?

make sure you adjust the timing when you change the idle since timing is (X)BTDC @ (Y)RPM
and make sure when setting the timing, you are inserting the jumper in the diagnostic plug per procedure.

I'm sure there's a write-up somewhere on here. When I first got my 95, it had an erratic idle and I just couldn't seem to get it right, turns out the PO didn't hook up the oxygen sensor. That might be something to check too.

is the O2 Sensor on the exhuast ahead of the cat converter or on the engine ?

I think it sometimes depends on where you live, in CA they have multiple ones. But mine is before the cat.

yeah. I think my cali emissions 3vze has double-EGR and double O2 sensors. search for the FSM (factory service manual) online here in the forums. You will get walked through any part of the problem/solution from that. I prefer and therefore own the actual hard copy of my 1994 toyota 4runner's factory service manual, but that cost me like $70. Whatever boats your float, or whatnot.
