how to remove trailor hookup?

I was trying to remove my spare tire when I noticed a bunch of wires tucked up inside the rim, I pull them out and to my surprize, the PO had a trailor hookup! Thanks for not mentioning that arse hole!

the wiring looks pretty bad, how should I go about removing this?

try finding some type of square tubing to go in there and turn the mechanism...only saying this b/c all the lowering things for spare tires i've ever saw had a square end that went in it...but it's worth a shot...i even saw some solid square steels rods at home depot the other day...

I got the spare tire down on my mazda truck with a floorjack handle once. You could probably also use the end of a bottle jack handle if you find one thats skinny enough.
