How to reinstall 4wd shifter
I replaced my clutch on my 86 4runner, everything is working fine. But I seem to have not seated transfer shifter back correctly. I have attempted multiple times, and can't get it in correctly or it seems it won't shift. I tried with a screwdriver to make line up the slots, but doesn't seem to move. Shouldn't I be able to line them up that way?
What am I overlooking? Any ideas are appreciated.

You might have to jack up a rear wheel so that the drive shaft can turn to allow the gears to line up and mesh. Then you should be able to move the shift rods to get the notches lined up.

Don't touch anything. The notches don't need to line up. You're in 2H. Angle the shifter so it matches the 2H position. Then make sure you guide the bottom of it into the notch on the shift rail to the right. If it came out, it'll go back in.
