I tell you what, those louvers(which are the these ones: http://www.raceace.com/index.html) probably don't do squat on the highway but when your goin' low and slow in the muck and the mess they probably help out a lot.

Wow. been looking onine at prices for these. About $100 a pair. You can go to lowes or home depot and get some heating vents for houses for $20 a pair. Practically the same thing. All you need to do is cut to desired shape.

Like how? The RaceAce(or RunCool now I think...
) kits are nice, painted and ready to install with included steel pop rivets(or aka blind rivets). You just have to make the holes.
If you want to add attic vent louvers to your truck, 'suppose you could. There's a wide variety of squareish shapes to choose from.

You know the only issue that I've ever worried about with these vents is when it rains like mad.
I always seem to think that when it rains hard the engine will get soaked and possibly have issues with the electrical and having problems that way.
I can tell you that I've been in some pretty bad downpours, and although the engine does get a bit wet, it's never been an issue. I've since stopped worrying about it.

We get 7ft of rain per year up here. Never had a problem. I'm sure BigBluePile can attest to that. I made sure not to place them over things like the fuse box and igniter though.

Looking back I wish I had gone the home depot route the home style heater vents are basically exactly the same for a quarter of the price, next rig thats what I'll do.
I'll try and pics tomorrow but I built a water dam over the dizzy with some old license plates and pop rivets. I held the garden hose over the vents with the truck running and not even a drop hit the dizz. The water dam does effect the amount of heat that side lets out though, there was a major difference before and after with regard to heat felt by hand when the truck was running. Even with the loss of effectiveness I still think its much better than without.

Anybody ever done the heater vent louver thing and not had it look ghetto?
After replacing an ignitor/coil each of the last 2 summers, I'm looking at some way to keep the underhood temps down.

I kind of figured these were contradictory to the way an engine runs. I thought engines run at peak efficiency while hot.
