Help please with truck issue
Hi,
I have a 1988 Toyoya, 4 cylinder, auto transmission, fuel injected, headers, K&N filter, shift kit.
Issue: sometimes after the transmission shifts to 2nd and the RPMs have dropped to 2000 I'll apply gas and the RPMs just stick at 2000 and the engine seems sluggish (not responding well). I'll floor it and it doesn't respond or sometimes after a few seconds the RPMs will shoot up to 4000. And, the other night when this happened the RPMs dropped from 2000 to 1500.
This problem seems to be localized to right after the truck shifts into 2nd (and RPMs drop to 2000). Doesn't happen much outside of this one part and in first the car goes past 2000 no problem.
I've cleaned out the throttle body. I've run ISO heat. And I've run fuel injector cleaner.
I noticed today also that I am losing coolant.
What else can I try? This problem is intermitten, doesn't occur all the time. Also, one I have been driving it goes away. It is generally right after starting (but happens both with a cold engine and after the car has been running 45 minutes and sitting for 5).
Thanks for any help.
