*HELP with Gearing* 4.30:

Hello everyone, so recently i broke my rear end. 3 teeth on the ring are missing, the pinion is fine. i counted my gears and got a 4.30 ratio, 43 on ring and 10 on pinion 43/10= 4.30 so weird i thought i had 5.29 cause im pulling 35 BFG muds and the truck did pretty good i bought the truck with lift and tires, looked like rtv sealant on rear end so i figured it was regeared. is 4.30 stock for a 1992 3.0 4x4?

sure can be. I saw two '90+ trucks/4runners at the junk yard with the 3vze/5spd and 4.30 gear code.

yes i do have the 4.30 gear code, dam those stock gears were not so bad with my 35" tires. But thats why i broke em haha. so now can i put 5.29 in the rear if everything else is stock?

if you are asking if you can put in a 5.29 R/P with stock axles then yes, but
you also need to regear the front end to have 4wd cause mismatched gears are a no no. but yes 4.30 are a common stock ratio. my lil step bro is getting my dads 2nd gen runner and it has factory 4.88! im jealous lol.

5.29 will get you closest to stock..
if you had a SFA you could go to 5.71, too.

It's sort of like with dual cases.
More gear reduction = more torque.
But, at 35" tires and 4.10's you'll only need like 2000RPM to go 60mph. The reason being is that the circumference of a 35" tire is greater than that of a 28" tire. So your speedo will be off, and it'll take less RPM to move faster. However, you'll lose a crap-ton of power. You may not have noticed it because you bought the truck with oversized tires perhaps?

Anyways, with the 5.29's it'll even out the balance between tire size and engine RPM. It'll be like having 31's and 4.30's. And your speedo will be more accurate.

And most likely, your speedo is off by ALOT.. So your most likely going around 63-65mph when it reads 60.

Read up on everything else if you don't believe me. But, you'll regain a ton of lost power, and you'll be able to actually climb hills, lol.

5.29's are a solid gear to run with those tires.

If I am running 31" tires and I'm at about 60mph and 2800RPM, what would my gearing be. I'm thinking it's 4.56, but could it be 4.88?
