Help with Front end squeaks & rattles

I just bought an 1989 SR5 extended cab the front end squeaks really bad when I turn sharp either way . The guy who sold it to me said it needed ball joints. I am going to replace them .
I remember my last toyota made the same noise.

Is this common on these early model trucks ?

I can't imagine that noise was there when it was new ?

Before I start replacing parts on the front end I wanted to know
if its common ? Or if its something I need to live with.
Over all the front end just sounds squeaky and rattles allot. I thought I would rebuild the front end but I do not want to if this was a problem on these years.

Thanks for your help.

if by turn sharply you mean that you've maxed out the turning radius, then the noise you are hearing is probably a "normal" sound. if you look at the front end you'll see a couple plastic covered stops. when you max out the turning radius you are rubbing against those and they sound horrible. you can put some grease on them to reduce the noise, or just remember that they are reminding you, not too quietly, that you can't turn any further.

Thanks for that tip . I will put some grease on the plastic stops.
So when these front ends are in good shape they are normally quiet for these years ?
Any recommendations for common parts to replace while I am in there replacing the ball joints ?

I am a DIY guy to cheap to pay for help and stupid enough to try it myself .
Thanks again.
