Help with cruise control

Hey guys,
I'm new here and new to Toyota (had my 4Runner for about 2 weeks now). There are MANY little things that need to be fixed on this truck. I'm working through them one by one. One of the things that doesn't work is the cruise control. The vacuum line coming off the diaphragm holds air, so I don't think it's a vacuum leak. Is there a certain part of the cruise control system that is prone to failure? Any tips that can help me track down the problem?

Thanks fellas!

EDIT: It's an '86 SR5 if that matters...

Did you check to see if the Cruise Control Computer was plugged in? or what about the wires connected to the buttons on the steering wheel. Or the Fuse?

I'll check those things out. Thanks. The cruise buttons are on a stalk on my truck, not on the wheel. Is that not normal?

The '85 FSM http://www.ncttora.com/fsm/1985/1985FSM.pdf has extensive diagnostics for the Cruise Control System.

OK, 94 2WD with factory cruise control. Took the actuator apart and there is a small tear in the diaphragm, about 5/16" long. Does anyone have actual experience repairing one of these? Or does anyone know of a replacement supplier? All help appreciated as the dealer wants my first born son.

Hopefully this will be helpful to someone else. I was able to successfully "patch" a small tear in the diaphragm of the cruise control. HondaBond worked very well for me and another member had posted that using a small section of a nitrile glove as a patch reinforced the mend. I put down a bed of hondaBond and laid the section of nitrile into that and came back with more hondaBond on top, btw, a "wet finger" smooths the rtv out beautifully. Cruise is so far working like new.
